KYLE MORRIS

Kyle Morris was an American abstract expressionist painter. He studied painting at the Chicago Art Institute and went on to receive his MA degree from Northwestern University in 1940 and his MFA degree from Cranbrook Academy in 1947. After serving in World War II for the United States from 1942 to 1945, Morris painted and taught regularly until his death. Morris is considered to be of the “New York School.” He was inspired by spirituality in nature and excelled at abstraction, although he taught about a variety of artistic styles. In the 1950s and 1960s, Morris participated in numerous exhibitions mainly in the New York area. His teachings positions included institutions such as the University of California, Berkley, the University of Texas, and the University of Minnesota. He was featured as a guest artist and critic at Yale University Graduate School and Carnegie Mellon University.
