Norman Carton

Norman Carton was born in Pennsylvania, but worked in New York and Paris. While in New York, he founded a cooperative gallery for artists in lower Manhattan where he developed his characteristic style that emphasized texture and color, making paintings that created a tactile experience. Carton also made murals in the 1930's as part of the WPA (Works Progress Administration), including one that remains at the New School.
